I have extensive experience and specialise in running textile and recycling-based workshops. These are based in primary and secondary schools, working inside and outside the curriculum, and where I have worked as artist in residence; for the NHS; with youth groups; in art galleries and in other community settings.
My workshops can be tailored to all age ranges and abilities. I like to focus on experimenting with materials and techniques. Previous workshops and projects have included:
- Felt-making
- Weaving with recycled materials
- Re-inventing an existing item of clothing
- Decorating and embellishing fabrics, through appliqué, machine and hand embroidery
- Using textiles to examine historical periods
- Paint, print and dye on fabric
- Junk sculpture
I work collaboratively with The Rhythm Kitchen (music and art workshops), Keystagers (drama and art) and through Artworks Bradford and Kirkgate Studios and Workshops.
I have an Enhanced CRB and public liability insurance.
Comments from workshop participants
‘I never really did art at school because I wasn’t very good at it. I really enjoyed working on this project because I was able to put my own ideas down using different types of fabric…I was pretty pleased with our art work it looks awesome’
(Chris aged 17)
‘My work represents who I am and what I enjoy doing. I have learnt from this project that art isn’t just about drawing and painting…I found out that you can use any material you want to make art. ‘
(Kev aged 16)
‘We chose our design because it represented us and how we feel. Then we decided to stitch it all together to make it look like a security blanket that makes us feel safe. What I have learnt from this project is how to make felt and how to work as a team.’
(Amy aged 19)
‘Fun for children, fun for parents, we would definitely come again.’
(parent)
‘I have learnt a lot and had fun a lot’
